Every day, convincing synthetic images and video make it harder to trust what we see. At InReality, we started with a different question: what if authentic media could carry its own proof from the moment it is created?

We have developed a new approach to content authenticity: establishing a trustworthy capture, sign it cryptographically, and keep a record of its journey through editing and publication. Rather than assign a probability that something might be fake, we want people to be able to check authenticity for themselves.

Taking on live video

Photos, recorded videos and also live videos are media which we rely on. InReality collaborated with other technology companies to build a way of securely live streaming from a smartphone device. It is a demanding problem, but an important one for broadcasters and anyone who needs full confidence in live footage.

Live video brings a new challenge: there is no finished file to sign before the audience sees it. InReality have built a world’s first: technology which signs live video on a smartphone as it is captured, so viewers can check its authenticity while it is streamed, all whilst being post-quantum secure. In IBC’s Accelerator programme, we explored how to capture, sign and export a live-video stream, using post quantum signing, put into custom C2PA-assertions, to bring about future-proof security for authenticity. All on a consumer grade smartphone, with smooth video, full resolution and everything else we expect from our devices today !

Q-Stream Alpha - the full product

Authentication is what we delivered, but the end solution provided much, much more. Named ‘Q-Stream Alpha’, the product comprises three parts: the eye, the brain, and the shield (authentication), created in a collaboration between InReality, Tesla Technology, Deviqon Labs and Norsk. All working together to provide a live stream which can operate securely in remote or low connectivity areas. We are proud to be building this technology with a team that brings together authentication, deep technical and journalism expertise. Being part of the IBC conversation helps us test the approach against the real needs of people producing and watching content, with the British Forces Broadcasting Services (BFBS), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Associated Press (AP) all championing and guiding the project.

We are extremely proud to say that we not only built first in the world tech, but the Accelerator project has been shortlisted for the RTS Technology Awards 2026, in Creative Innovation Project of the Year! https://rts.org.uk/events/rts-technology-awards-2026

A big thank you to Tesla Technology, Deviqon Labs and Norsk.

What’s next?

Having built this new technology we are now integrating the authentication part into InReality Capture! Meaning photos, video AND live video streams are all up-levelled to authenticated, trusted media.
